Rohit Can Lead India At 2024 T20 World Cup, Report Details Out Conditions

Rohit Sharma's request to the BCCI for a break from white-ball cricket in South Africa despite being offered T20 captaincy has been accepted, while Jasprit Bumrah has been named his deputy for the two Tests starting December 26. Virat Kohli's request for a break from limited-overs games too has been accepted as Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul will lead the national team in T20Is and ODIs respectively. However, it is understood that Hardik Pandya is no longer an automatic choice for T20 captaincy in the T20 World Cup next year if Rohit decides to play the shortest format.

"Rohit has been offered T20 captaincy but he is in UK on a holiday and wants an extended break after four months of gruelling season till end of the World Cup. But as captain, he has the highest respect for the dressing room and if he agrees to lead India in T20 World Cup, he will lead," a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

After the T20 World Cup in 2022, Rohit had actually been reluctant to play the shortest format as he focused on 50-over cricket.

Interestingly, most of the players selected for ODIs don't feature either in Tests or T20Is.

Only three players have been selected in all three squads - Shreyas Iyer, Mukesh Kumar and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Axar Patel has been dropped from the T20 squad and Ravindra Jadeja is the new T20 vice-captain for the series.

The national selection committee, on expected lines, has not included Kona Bharat in the Test squad as KL Rahul will now don the big gloves in the Test matches.

Rahul as keeper also opens two middle-order slots -- for Shreyas Iyer and reserve batter Gaikwad -- in the Test lineup.

It is understood that Mohammed Shami has a chance to get fit before the Test series starts late in December.

"Shami's injury isn't very serious at the moment and hence he has been kept in the squad. Prasidh Krishna has been kept as his cover just in case.

ODI is the least important format right now but looking at the 2025 Champions Trophy, a new-look squad under Rahul will play the 50-over games.

Rajat Patidar, B Sai Sudharshan and Rinku Singh, all with fantastic List A records, are in the ODI squad and will form the nucleus of the next 50-over team.

Kuldeep Yadav, who couldn't be accommodated in the Test squad, is there in both the white-ball squads.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who missed the World Cup, is now back in the 50-over format while Ravi Bishnoi is in the T20 squad.

Dominica Says 'No' To Hosting T20 World Cup 2024

Dominica will be unable to meet the deadline for completing the construction work of their stadiums and the government on Thursday announced its decision to withdraw from hosting their allotted matches of the T20 World Cup next year. Windsor Park was shortlisted to host one group match and two Super Eight games as Dominica was one of seven countries in the Caribbean shortlisted to host the T20 World Cup.

The T20 showpiece is being co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA from June 4-30 next year. "Several tangible actions were taken both at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium and at the Benjamin's Park including the commencement of upgrading and enhancement of the practice and match venues, various assessments and the creation of additional pitches where necessary," a statement from the Dominica government's read.

"However, the implementation timelines submitted by the various contractors revealed that it would not be possible to complete these works within the stipulated timeframe before the commencement of the tournament. As a result, a decision was taken not to host any of the matches in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 as it would not be prudent for the Government of Dominica to commit to hosting these games.

"In light of Dominica's sterling reputation in hosting international cricket, this decision is considered to be in the best interest of all. The Government of Dominica thanks Cricket West Indies (CWI) for its partnership over the years and looks forward to continued collaboration in the future. The Government of Dominica extends best wishes to the organisers for a successful tournament in June 2024." The ICC is yet to respond to the development.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Do The Flagship Specs Deliver?

Samsung's FE series has always been a fan favourite since the first Samsung Galaxy S20 FE was released with almost flagship-level specs and a price that sits right between the highest-end A Series smartphone and the entry-level S Series smartphone. This year, Samsung launched two FE devices, the refreshed S21 FE with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 and the new Samsung Galaxy S23 FE with Exynos 2200 SoC and a lot of the features that might make the smartphone look like a flagship on paper. Does the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S23 FE deliver on the brand's promise when they introduced the first ‘Fan Edition' smartphone, and should you buy it at a starting price of Rs. 59,999? Let's find out in this detailed Samsung Galaxy S23 FE review.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE price in India

I've been using the base variant for the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage in the Mint colour option, which is priced at Rs. 59,999. The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is available in a higher-end 256GB storage variant as well, with the same amount of RAM, that is 8GB for Rs. 64,999, which makes this smartphone come very close to the vanilla Samsung Galaxy S23 that comes equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The smartphone can be bought in two more colour options: Graphite and Purple. The brand has also launched two special edition colour options for this smartphone, Indigo and Tangerine, which can only be bought through their official website. The 256GB storage variant is a good addition, but a higher-end variant with more RAM would've been better and justified the price more.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Design

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE sports a design that might be familiar to many people. It uses the same design language as the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the Samsung Galaxy A54, with matte-finished aluminium side rails, volume rockers and a power key that is very responsive and tactile, as a flagship smartphone should. The smartphone uses a dual nano sim card slot with an option to either use one physical and an E-Sim or two physical SIM cards at the same time. It does not come with expandable storage, which is slightly disappointing. It comes equipped with a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port and stereo speakers that are decently loud. The smartphone comes equipped with Corning's Gorilla Glass 5 protection for the display and the back panel with a glossy finish instead of the matte finish that the Samsung Galaxy S23 sports.

S23 FE design S23 FE design

The smartphone sports Gorilla Glass 5 on the front as well as on the back.

This makes the smartphone prone to fingerprints and smudges a lot. At 8.22mm thick, the smartphone feels a little thicker than your usual smartphone, and 209 grams of weight puts it on the heavier side. It is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance, which is a plus. I had the smartphone with me for a decent amount of time and used it without a case. After only a few days, I started noticing scuffs and scratches on the display glass, protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 5. The smartphone is a little slippery without the case. Despite the thicker chassis and higher weight, the smartphone still carries the premium look and feel that Samsung flagships are known for.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Display

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE sports a 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution. The display itself is impressive, no matter if I talk about the colours that it produces or the sharpness. I didn't have any complaints on that front, but the bezels are particularly thick for a smartphone that costs more than 50K and is marketed as an entry-level flagship by the manufacturer. I'd be lying if I said it disappears after you immerse yourself in content; it doesn't and stares right in your face.

S23 FE display S23 FE display

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE features a flat display

It is HDR10+ certified and supports a peak brightness of up to 1450 nits, which feels super bright indoors and outdoors. I did not see much discolouration on the display while using the smartphone in harsh sunlight. The smartphone lets you choose between a standard 60Hz refresh or an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz. It feels smooth across the board while scrolling through the UI and apps or gaming.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Camera

It sports a triple-rear camera setup that includes the primary 50-megapixel camera with an f1.8 aperture with a 24mm focal range that comes equipped with OIS, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera that provides 3x optical zoom with f2.4 aperture and a 75mm focal range with OIS and lastly a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f2.2 aperture.

S23 FE Camera module S23 FE Camera module

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE features the signature Galaxy design language

The smartphone does a pretty good job when focusing on moving subjects, thanks to the inclusion of PDAF for the primary as well as the telephoto camera. Daylight shots from the primary camera came out pretty well; it produced plenty of sharp images from corner to corner and had good details in the shadows and the highlight.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE daylight primary camera samples (tap to see full size)

Bokeh without the portrait mode looks very pleasing, and to my surprise, this Samsung smartphone didn't overdo with saturation levels. The telephoto camera also maintained the same saturation levels but produced slightly softer images.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE daylight telephoto camera samples (tap to see full size)

This smartphone's ultrawide camera maintains the colour scheme like the two other rear cameras, but the images tend to distort a lot on the corners, which could be fixed with a future software update.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE daylight ultra-wide camera samples (tap to see full size)

The smartphone has a 10-megapixel camera for selfies, which clicks pretty detailed images in daylight.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE selfie camera samples (tap to see full size)

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE also has a good camera system for nighttime shots. The images take longer to shoot, but OIS helps the user with it, and the shots you get look pretty good. I did notice some noise in the ultrawide shots.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE nighttime camera samples (tap to see full size)

It uses a 10-megapixel camera with f2.4 for selfies that does an excellent job with daylight, nighttime and portrait shots. It maintains the colour scheme as the other cameras on board, and you will notice that there is some post-processing happening in the background after you click, as it takes a second to show the final image.

The smartphone can shoot up to 8K 24fps with the primary camera; this is a feature that you do not see very often on a smartphone in this price range. I shot multiple handheld 8K videos using this smartphone, and I was impressed with the results I got. The videos were stabilised, had plenty of details and had plenty of dynamic range to play around with if you ever want to edit these videos. It can shoot 4K 60fps videos as well. The front camera, too, can shoot videos at up to 4K 60fps, which is pretty good for content creators.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Battery and Charging

The 4500mAh battery does a decent job for a light usage day, but as soon as you include gaming and video streaming, with a high refresh rate turned on, the smartphone does not last very long. The Samsung S23 FE lasted 16 hours and 25 minutes in our battery loop test. Considering Samsung does not provide a charger inside the retail package, support for charging would have been appreciated, as 25W charging support is way too slow for 2023. In our testing, the smartphone charged up to 25% in 30 minutes and 65% in an hour, which is way too slow compared to the competition in this price range.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Performance

Samsung S23 FE uses Samsung's Exynos 2200 4nm SoC in India and not Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that the consumers in the US are getting, which is a bummer, at least on paper. We ran all the required benchmarks on the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, and the results were pretty good. It scored 1,174,800 on AnTuTu v.10.0.10, 1130 single core and 3232 for GeekBench 6. I played Call of Duty & Real Racing 3, which ran just fine with high graphic settings.

S23 FE gameplay S23 FE gameplay

The smartphone features the 4nm Exynos 2200 SoC

The frames didn't drop a lot, and the gameplay was smooth. The smartphone did get a little warm after each gaming session. The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE runs OneUI 5.1 out of the box, which is based on Android 13, and it offers a pretty smooth user experience and does not have a lot of pre-installed apps.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is a smartphone focused on consumers who wish to get the flagship experience but do not want to spend on something like a Samsung Galaxy S23 or S23+. This one lives up to the FE legacy with flagship-level cameras, a good display, decent battery life and a great processor for almost anything you want to do with this smartphone. All this combined does deliver a premium experience, only if you can live with thicker bezels on a smartphone that costs more than 50K in 2023. Considering this smartphone does not have expandable storage, the base 128GB storage variant might not be sufficient for most people and buying the 256GB variant puts this smartphone in the sub 65K price category, which is already very saturated with the likes of OnePlus 11 (Review) with better performance and modern looking curved display.

The 'RCB Factor' In Hardik Pandya's Return To Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians secured Hardik Pandya through an all-cash deal with Gujarat Titans. It is one of the biggest trades in the history of the Indian Premier League as Hardik has a price tag of INR 15 crore, an amount that was paid by GT when they bought the player for their first-ever IPL season in 2022. Mumbai Indians must be a happy side after the recent trade but it would not have been possible had there not been a 'Royal Challengers Bangalore factor' in it.

After announcing the list of the players retained, MI on Sunday had INR 15.25 crore of the remaining purse with 8 vacant spots in the squad. Had Mumbai roped in Hardik from GT, they would have been left with a mere sum of INR 25 lakh going into the IPL 2023 auction.

However, RCB bought Cameron Green from MI in an all-cash deal, providing Mumbai the cushion for the Hardik trade.

The transfer of Green gave a huge boost to Mumbai's purse due to which the franchise still has a total of INR 17.75 crore to its credit despite securing Hardik.

Mumbai Indians currently have 17 players -- one less than the minimum bar set by IPL -- in their squad and they can fill a maximum of 8 more players. Out of the available 8 slots, MI can buy a maximum of 2 overseas players.

It is worth noting that Hardik had made his IPL debut way back in 2015 with Mumbai Indians.

Hardik played 92 matches for MI from 2015-2021, scoring 1,476 runs at an average of 27.33 at a strike rate of over 153, with four half-centuries and best score of 91. He also took 42 wickets for the team, with the best bowling figures of 3/20.

New Skipper Shan Masood Wants Pakistan To Change History On Australia Tour

Newly appointed skipper Shan Masood set Pakistan a tough target on Wednesday for their forthcoming tour of Australia -- make history. Pakistan have never won a Test series in the 12 times they have toured down under, with the south Asian side losing the last 14 five-dayers in a row there. But Masood, 34, who took over the Test side after Babar Azam relinquished the captaincy in all formats of cricket following Pakistan's disastrous World Cup campaign, sees an opportunity.

"When you have not achieved something in history, then you have an opportunity to change it," he told a news conference in Lahore ahead of the team's departure.

"So we will make an effort to produce positive results for Pakistan and for the World Test championship."

Pakistan are on the top of World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle with wins in both Tests against Sri Lanka, while India are second and Australia third on the nine-team table.

But Australia are flying high after winning the last cycle of the championship and lifting the 50-over World Cup earlier this month. The Test series starts with the first match in Perth from December 14, followed by Melbourne (December 26-30), and Sydney (January 3-7).

Pakistan lost both Tests by an innings margin during their last tour -- a series Masood was part of.

"We need to score 400 and then take 20 wickets," said Masood of what was required.

"We did not do that on our last tour in 2019, so that is the goal."

Masood admitted Australia would be high on confidence. "The positive thing will be to have the belief to play well, and all those playing contribute to give Australia some tough times."

Masood insisted the tourists had prepared well for this series. "We tried to replicate the Australian conditions in our training camp in Rawalpindi, which has a bouncy pitch," he said.

He also hailed the appointment of former England skipper Adam Hollioake, who coaches in Australia, as the team's new batting coach.

"Teams hire people who have local knowledge, and he is an expert of Australian conditions so his appointment will help us to apply ourselves in those conditions."

He also backed his predecessor Azam to have a big tour, saying the team's batting "will go around him".

"We want to play the type of cricket that our fans enjoy -- a good and fighting brand," he said.

Karthik Slams Fifty As Tamil Nadu Beat Baroda In Vijay Hazare Trophy Clash

Veteran Dinesh Karthik was back at his vintage best to smash a quickfire half-century as Tamil Nadu overcame a jittery start to down Baroda by 38 runs in a low-scoring group E match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy domestic one-dayers, in Mumbai on Wednesday. Put in, Tamil Nadu were reeling at 52/5 when the skipper dig in with all his experience to rescue the team with a 51-ball 68 featuring nine fours and two sixes for his 40th List A fifty.

Tamil Nadu were soon reduced to 52/6, but Karthik held fort and put together a 75-run partnership with Shahrukh Khan (31; 39b) to help them go past 150.

Lukman Meriwala (4/21 from 7 overs) and Ninad Rathva (3/23 from 7.3 overs) were the pick of the bowlers for Baroda as Tamil Nadu's innings lasted just 33.3 overs.

In reply, Baroda were shot out for 124 in 23.3 overs with T Natarajan leading the charge in his 7-1-38-4, while spin twins Varun Chakravarthy and R Sai Kishore sharing five wickets between them.

Padikkal on song

Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal continued with his silken touch in the format, scoring a 57-ball 93 not out to steer them to a seven-wicket win over Bihar in a group C contest at Ahmedabad.

Batting at No 4, Padikkal hit nine boundaries and five sixes as Karnataka made short work of Bihar, chasing down the 218-target in just 33.4 overs.

This was the India A batter's fourth fifty-plus score in as many matches and he also has a century to his name to be the leading rungetter of the meet.

Openers Mayank Agarwal (28) and Ravikumar Samarth (4) got out cheaply but Padikkal and Nikin Jose (69) effortlessly took their team over the line.

Jagadeesha Suchith was the pick of their bowling as he returned with a tidy 10-2-27-3 as Bihar were restricted to 217/7 after Karnataka skipper Agarwal opted to bowl.

Sakibul Gani waged a lone battle for Bihar with a 100-ball 113 not out as wickets kept on falling around him.

Shashank slams 152, grabs five-for

Shashank Singh produced a spectacular all-round effort —152 (113b) and 5/20 in five overs — as Chhattisgarh thrashed Manipur by 88 runs in a group B match at Jaipur.

Chhattisgarh lost their top three for only 16 inside nine overs after Manipur chose to bowl, but thereafter it was all about their No 5 batter Shashank who smashed 12 fours and seven sixes in his counter-attacking knock.

Skipper Amandeep Khare (88) also provided a fine support as the duo consolidated after the anxious start.

After the pair's departure, Ajay Mandal (43 not out; 20b) propped them to an imposing 342/6.

Shashank returned to shine with the ball, grabbing a five-wicket haul as Manipur managed 254/9.

Samson flops again but Kerala win

Sanju Samson failed with the bat yet again as he was dismissed for a five-ball one, but Kerala had it easy in defeating Tripura by 119 runs in a group A clash at Alur.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammed Azharuddeen top-scored for Kerala with a 61-ball 58 as he, along with Rohan Kunnummal (44; 70b), gave Kerala a strong start with a 95-run opening alliance.

But Kerala suffered a middle-order collapse to be bowled out for 231 in 47.1 overs. In reply, Tripura folded for 112. Akhin Sathar, Akhil Scaria and Vaisakh Chandran took eight wickets between them.

J&K stun Delhi

Jammu and Kashmir's new ball bowler Rasikh Salam (4/23) dismantled Delhi's top order to complement opener Shubham Khajuria's splendid 109 as they stunned Delhi by 75 runs in another group C clash at Ahmedabad.

Put in, J&K rode on their skipper's century to post 299/7. In reply, Delhi were bundled out for 224 in 45.3 overs. Lalit Yadav was Delhi's top-scorer (67) but none of their other batters could provide any resistance.

Watch: 16 Needed Off 4 balls, Glenn Maxwell Unleashes Mayhem vs Prasidh

It was Glenn Maxwell show yet again at an Indian cricket ground. This time the venue was the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati and Indian cricket team was at the receiving end. India posted a huge 223-run target for Australia. While the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals, they stayed in chase with Glenn Maxwell playing the lead role. The Australia star scored 104* off just 48 balls, with eight fours and eight sixes. But what he did in the last over by Prasidh Krishna is going to be remembered for a long time to come.

Australia needed 21 runs off six balls to win. On the first ball of the last over by Prasidh Krishna, Australia captain Matthew wade hit a boundary and then took a single. The equation was then 16 needed off four balls. Maxwell first hit a six and then three straight fours to take Australia to their first win of the five-match series.

Talking about the game, Glenn Maxwell's fiery unbeaten hundred carried Australia to a five-wicket win over India in the third T20I in Guwahati on Tuesday.

With this win, Australia managed to cut India's series lead to 2-1 in the five-match rubber. Maxwell made 104 off 48 balls (8x4, 8x6) as the Aussies went past India's 222 for 3 in the last ball of the match.

Skipper Matthew Wade remained not out on a crucial 28 off 16 balls. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets for India.

Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad's maiden international hundred was the cornerstone of India's big total. Gaikwad made a rollicking unbeaten 123 off 57 balls.

Brief scores: India: 222 for 3 in 20 overs (Ruturaj Gaikwad 123 not out, Suryakumar Yadav 39, Tilak Varma 31 not out; Jason Behrendorff 1/12) lost to Australia: 225 for 5 in 20 overs (Glenn Maxwell 104 not out, Matthew Wade 28 not out, Ravi Bishnoi 2/32) by 5 wickets.

Glenn Maxwell goes deep inside the crease and sways it over the deep cover-point fielder for a six. Rinku Singh at the edge of the boundary ropes could only watch it sail over.

19.2 overs (1 Run) In the air and just short of sweeper cover. Full and wide outside the off, angled across the southpaw. Wade mistimes the slice and gets just a single.

19.1 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Perfect start to the final over for the Aussies! Short ball, off-cutter over the middle and leg. Wade middles the swivel pull over the backward square leg region for a four.

Prasidh Krishna to bowl the final over. It is going right down to the wire. Can Krishna defend 20 runs? Let's find out. Also, due to the slow over rate India have one less boundary rider which could make a massive difference.

18.6 overs (4 Runs) FOUR BYES! Length and angling down leg. It was flatter and Maxwell missed on the reverse sweep. Ishan Kishan misses to grab the ball behind the stumps and the cork flurries towards the ropes for four byes.

18.5 overs (1 Run) Full and outside the off. Wade miscues the drag towards left of the bowler for a single.

18.4 overs (6 Runs) SIX! MAXIMO! Full and around the fifth stump line. Wade gets the space to go down the ground and times it off the middle of the bat. It was in the slot and Wade gets the desired result on the free-hit.

18.4 overs (1 Run) No ball! Fuller than a length, wide outside the off. Wade tries to inside out and gets beaten on the outside edge. The keeper whipped the bails in a jiffy but the umpire signals it wide. The TV umpire has been referred to. Flat line on Ultraedge as the ball swirls through the willow. The umpire observes that the collection of the ball from the keeper was not fully behind the stumps. Marginally before the poles. And so, it gets converted into a no ball. A free hit on queue.

18.3 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! A terrific start to the over from Australia. Length and wide outside the off. Wade initially made a tad room but managed to get enough on the slam over extra cover for a four. Suryakumar Yadav did leap and try to catch the ball but it wasn't enough.

18.2 overs (2 Runs) Shortish at the midriff. Wade miscues the pull towards deep backward square leg for a brace.

18.1 overs (4 Runs) FOUR!!! Axar from around the wicket in the 19th over. Full and quick outside the off. Wade makes room and slaps it past right of long off for a four. Ravi Bishnoi there did dive forward but could not pull it inside the field of play.

17.6 overs (0 Run) Length and outside the off. The batter goes for a big swing across the line and gets beaten. Frustration in the face of Maxwell.

17.6 overs (1 Run) Wide! Short and leaps up too much to be called a wide.

17.5 overs (1 Run) DROPPED IT! Dear me!! Would've been a fantastic catch if Surya had grabbed it. Full and keeps it wide of the batter. Wade looks to thump hard and finds Suryakumar Yadav leaping to his left and almost making the catch at extra cover. The ball just spilled off his palm as the body struck on the ground.

17.4 overs (1 Run) Mixes up with the pace-off delivery wide outside the off stump. Maxwell loses his bottom hand on the intended slog and finds a single as the ball fell just short of long on fielder.

17.3 overs (0 Run) Short of a length into the pitch and around the off. Maxwell goes for a wild slog and gets beaten on the inside edge.

17.2 overs (2 Runs) Slower one at the fourth stump. Maxwell manages to flick it towards the gap between deep mid-wicket and long on for a brace.

17.1 overs (1 Run) Full at the off stump from over the wicket. Wade miscues the lofted shot over point for a single.

16.6 overs (1 Run) Full and around the middle stump. Wade looks to scoop it and finds a single down fine leg.

16.5 overs (1 Run) Back of a length, outside the off. Maxwell sways it towards deep cover for a single.

16.4 overs (1 Run) Pitched further up, angling in at the southpaw. Wade plays this one towards long on for a single.

16.3 overs (1 Run) Fuller at the fourth stump, made almost a yorker as Maxwell walked down the ground. He drives it to long off for a single.

16.2 overs (6 Runs) SIX! KABOOM! Maxwell at his best in Guwahati. Full and around the off stump. In the slot from the bowler and the Big Show pummels it over the cow corner fence for a six.

16.1 overs (6 Runs) SIX! Arshdeep Singh's slower one gets pumped over the deep square leg ropes. Full and around the fifth stump. Glenn Maxwell gets across the line sits on both knees and manages to whip this one over the ropes. Wristy bottom hand at its best!

15.6 overs (1 Run) Pitched up at the fifth stump. Driven towards sweeper cover for single.

15.5 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Full and wide outside the off. Maxwell sits there and tries to stretch out at the line of the ball. He manages to get some bat and slaps the ball, past the diving fielder and scurrys towards deeper extra cover ropes.

15.4 overs (2 Runs) Full and near the fourth stump line. Maxwell mistimes the whip towards right of long on for a couple.

15.3 overs (0 Run) Full and outside the off. Maxwell shuffles across for the scoop and gets beaten again.

A slight halt in the play as Glenn Maxwell has asked for the scrubber to scrub off the mud from under his shoes. The outfield is pretty wet and he wouldn't want to take any chances of slipping. All good now and play can continue.

15.2 overs (0 Run) Good length and outside the off. Maxwell went for the reverse sweep and got beaten.

15.1 overs (6 Runs) SIX! Out of the screws! Full and straight at the off stump. Maxwell times the flick perfectly and sails the ball over the park, into the stands over deep mid wicket.

PCB Unwilling To Grant NOC To WC Star, BBL Participation Delayed

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to delay the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) of pacer Haris Rauf for his participation in the Big Bash League (BBL). Rauf's NOC certificate is likely to be delayed till December 11, four days after the start of the league. However, there is no confirmation that the NOC will be issued to the pacer immediately after, according to a report by ESPNcricinfo. The PCB wants the 30-year-old pacer to take part in the National T20 Cup in Pakistan, which will end on December 10, for which the apex body of the 'Men in Green' is holding the NOC certificate of the fast bowler, as per ESPNcricinfo.

Recently, Pakistan chief selector Wahab Riaz attacked speedster Haris Rauf for backing out from the forthcoming Australia Tests and said that it would hurt the 'Men in Green'.

While announcing the 18-member squad of Pakistan for their tour of Australia, the chief selector revealed that Rauf agreed to play Test cricket but later changed his mind.

"We spoke to Haris Rauf for this tour. When we spoke to him two days ago, he gave his consent to play Test cricket for Pakistan. But last night he changed his mind, and now he doesn't want to be part of this Test series. I'm revealing this because we should be honest with officials, teammates, and the public. We spoke to Haris and he was worried about his body and fitness, as well as his workload. Mohammad Hafeez and I sat with him and tried to facilitate him in every way. We told him even if he didn't perform well there, we would accept it," Wahab said earlier.

In the ODI World Cup 2023, Rauf failed to put up a quality performance. He played nine matches and scalped 16 wickets. However, he gave away 533 runs and had an economy rate of 6.74.

"Said Sorry To Ruturaj": Jaiswal Opens Up On Gaikwad's Bizarre Dismissal

Team India thrashed Australia by 44 runs in the second T20I of the five-match series on Sunday in Thiruvananthapuram. The main architects of India's victory were opening batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj, who scored 53 and 58 runs respectively and propelled India to a whopping total of 235/4. Later, the hosts restricted Australia at 191/9 with Ravi Bishnoi and Prasidh Krishna taking three wickets each. It was a memorable match for Jaiswal, who brought up his half-century in just 24 balls.

After the match, Jaiswal spoke about the tragic mix-up which handed Gaikwad his diamond duck in the first T20I on Thursday. In the first match, Jaiswal and Gaikwad were caught in a mix-up while trying to take a double. Resulting which, Gaikwad had to depart without even playing a ball.

Jaiswal revealed that he admitted his mistake and went on to apologize to Gaikwad. He also praised his co-opener for being "humble" and "caring".

"It was my mistake in the last game and said sorry to Ruturaj. Accepted was my mistake. Rutu bhai is so humble and very caring," said Jaiswal in a post-match presentation.

About this win, he said, "It was really special for me. I was trying to play all my shots. Was trying to be fearless. I was sure of my decisions. I have been told by Surya bhai and VVS sir to go and play freely. I have been asked to express myself. For me, what I think I can develop and not think about anything else."

Talking about the match, opener Jaiswal led the charge of India's young brigade with a sparkling 53 off 25 balls, guiding India to a massive 235 for four in the company of Ishan (52 off 32 balls) and Gaikwad (58 off 43 balls).

Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi (3/32) then muffled the Australian top-order with two quick blows, and the visitors were eventually limited to 191 for nine despite aggressive knocks by Tim David (37 off 22 balls) and Marcus Stoinis (45 off 25 balls).

Pacer Prasidh Krishna grabbed three wickets to accentuate Australia's fall as they lost five wickets for 16 runs.

Both the teams will now meet again on Tuesday for the third T20I match of the five-match series in Guwahati.

India Star Says "Can't Help It" After Lack Of Playing Time In World Cup

Team India went 2-0 up in a five-match series against Australia on Sunday as the Suryakumar Yadav-led side registered a 44-run win in Thiruvananthapuram. After being put into bat by Australia captain Matthew Wade, India's top-3 batters -- Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan -- all scored half-centuries, propelling India to a mammoth score of 235/4. Jaiswal smashed a 24-ball half-century before Gaikwad (58) and Kishan (52) also crossed the 50-run mark.

After Jaiswal dismissal, Kishan took the mantle of power-hitting, reaching his half-century in just 29 balls.

Kishan is one of the three members in the team for the ongoing series who were part of the World Cup squad, along with captain Suryakumar and Shreyas Iyer, who will join the side for the last two matches.

Having played just two matches during the entire tournament, Kishan lift the lid on India's World Cup final defeat. He said it was important for him to remain fresh despite not playing regularly.

"It is all hunger, when you are not a part of a great team. We played like champions at the World Cup. I was feeling bad, but you can't help it. In international cricket, times will come when you will not play but at the same time, you will have to be fresh. You will have to make it count when the time comes. When the opportunity comes, you will have to go for it," Kishan said on Jio Cinema.

Kishan played India's World Cup-opener against Australia and a game against Afghanistan, registering scores of 0 and 47, respectively.

After near-flawless batting performance in back-to-back games, the new-look Indian team would like to keep its foot firmly on the pedal in Guwahati, a venue that has traditionally been a batting belter. And there is no reason to think that the 22-yard strip is any different this time also.

The 40,000 spectators, expected to fill up the stands, would expect a run-feast from the talented Indian batting unit, which would want to add to the 36 boundaries and 24 maximums it has collectively hit across the two games.

For Australia, some of their senior players like Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa have been in India for nine weeks and fatigue is showing. They need considerable rest before their next assignments.

All the four will play in Big Bash League next month. For Smith, the Pakistan Test series would be his next international assignment.

2nd T20I: India Beat Australia By 44 Runs, Take 2-0 Lead In 5-Match Series

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave a telling manifestation of their talent with twinkling fifties, the catalyst of India's 44-run win over Australia in the second T20I in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. India are now leading the five-match series 2-0. Opener Jaiswal led the charge of India's young brigade with a sparkling 53 off 25 balls, guiding India to a massive 235 for four in the company of Ishan (52 off 32 balls) and Gaikwad (58 off 43 balls).

Australia needed to score at 11.8 runs per over to hunt down India's total. Openers Matthew Short and Steve Smith made an urgent beginning, procuring 31 runs in the first two overs.

But Bishnoi jettisoned Short in the third over and Josh Inglis, who made a hundred in the first match at Visakhapatnam, in the fifth over as Australia slipped to 39 for two.

It soon transpired to 58 for four after Smith fell to Prasidh and left-arm spinner Axar Patel gobbled up Glenn Maxwell, as the Indian bowlers produced a disciplined effort.

However, Australia found some fight through David and Stoinis, who pummelled the Indian attack for 81 runs for an entertaining fifth wicket stand that came in just above seven overs.

Both David and Stoinis are capable of clearing the fence at will, and the Aussie duo did exactly that.

David hammered pacer Mukesh Kumar for 19 runs in the 10th over as Australia made 104 for 4 in the 10 overs and looked good for a comeback.

But Bishnoi bagged the crucial wicket of David, who lifted him to Gaikwad at long-on.

Stoinis too did not last long as his attempted heave off Mukesh ended with Axar near the straight boundary.

From that point, an Indian victory was a mere formality.

But for all that, the Indian camp should profusely thank three young, talented batters - Jaiswal, Kishan and Gaikwad.

Australian captain Matthew Wade's decision to bowl first keeping in mind the dew factor did not pay off as his bowlers faltered against the Indian troika.

The ball came off the pitch a tad slow but the Aussie bowlers were wayward, offering width to Indian batsmen.

They were happy to oblige, especially Jaiswal. He took on Sean Abbot in a breathtaking fashion.

The Australian pacer rightly took the pace off his deliveries but he erred in the line and length, offering a chance for the Indian opener to free his hands.

In the fourth over, the left-hander punished Abbot with a sequence of 4, 4, 4, 6, 6 for 24 runs, coming through two square cuts, a late cut and two pulls as India motored on in the Power Play segment which produced 71 runs.

Jaiswal brought up his fifty in 24 balls, but he could not extend the innings as a rather wild slash off pacer Nathan Ellis was grabbed by Adam Zampa at backward square leg.

But that did not really affect the Indian innings as Gaikwad combined with Kishan, who made his second fifty in as many matches, to garner 87 runs for a bruising second wicket alliance.

After the return of Jaiswal, the visitors might have hoped to slow down India's march, but the right-hand-left-hand combination never allowed them to dictate the pace of the match. India touched 101 for 1 after 10 overs.

India progressed at around 11.5 runs per over in the middle phase of the innings despite spinners Zampa and Tanveer Sangha bowling relatively better spells.

Kishan reached his half-century in 29 balls with a massive pulled six off leg-spinner Sangha over mid-wicket.

Gaikwad, whose lofted shot over bowler Zampa's head was a treat to watch, too reached his fifty off 39 balls with a double off pacer Ellis.

It might appear an industrious innings, but Gaikwad's solidity allowed others to launch into the Australian attack.

Kishan too could not build on his innings as he lost balance while trying to wallop Stoinis out of the ground, hoicking a simple catch to Ellis in the deep.

However, Rinku Singh chipped in with his customary cameo (31 off 9 balls) and ensured that India finished strongly.

The left-handed Rinku robbed 25 runs off the 19th over bowled by Abbot as he leaked 56 runs off three overs in total.

The final over bowled by Ellis went for 20 runs as India reached a total that remained out of Aussies' reach.

19.4 overs (0 Run) On a hard length around leg stump and skidding on quickly, Matthew Wade looks for the pull but is late on it and gets another blow to the body.

19.3 overs (6 Runs) SIX! Up, up and away! Another full toss, this time outside off, Matthew Wade extends his arms and manages to lift it well over the point fence for another biggie.

19.2 overs (0 Run) Misses out! Shuffles across early and gets a high full toss on middle but Matthew Wade misses out on the lap as the ball goes off the gloves onto the leg side.

19.1 overs (0 Run) Nicely bowled! Full and quick, right in the blockhole and very close to the off stump, Matthew Wade looks to play at it but is well beaten.

18.6 overs (1 Run) Full on middle, clipped away past mid-wicket for a single.

18.5 overs (6 Runs) SIX! Right off the screws and that's the third maximum for Matthew Wade in the last over or so. Another one that is banged in, this is over middle and at a comfortable height, Wade muscles it away with ease over the mid-wicket fence.

18.4 overs (0 Run) Full and straight this time, Matthew Wade looks for the big heave but miscues it off the inner half of the bat to deep mid-wicket for one.

18.3 overs (6 Runs) SIX! Oh, that is a nice pick-up shot and Matthew Wade with a bit of a late blitz here. Full and quick, angled into the pads, Wade goes down for the sweep but then just flicks it away over deep backward square leg for a maximum.

18.2 overs (1 Run) Attempted slower yorker, spills out of the hand and turns out to be a high full toss on the hips, Tanveer Sangha flicks it away through square leg for a run.

18.1 overs (0 Run) A bumper now, around off, Tanveer Sangha looks to play at it but ducks under it.

17.6 overs (6 Runs) SIX! Gets a hold of that one alright! This is banged in short over the stumps, Matthew Wade gets in position quickly for the pull and whacks it a long way over deep square leg for a biggie.

17.5 overs (1 Run) Full and straight, right in the blockhole but misses the perfect yorker by a couple of inches, Tanveer Sangha tucks it away past square leg for one.

17.4 overs (1 Run) Full and outside off, Matthew Wade hits it away through cover-point and picks up a single.

Matthew Wade is in agony and the physio now comes out to provide some aid to the hurting man. After a couple of minutes, wade is finally up on his feet and the play can now continue.

17.3 overs (0 Run) Ouch, that must have hurt! Hits the length hard and bowls it over leg stump, Matthew Wade looks to pull but it isn't short enough and the ball goes on to hit him in the groin region.

17.2 overs (2 Runs) Back of a length at the body, swung away leg side by Matthew Wade but again there's not much timing on it and the ball goes in between long on and deep mid-wicket as Wade picks up another brace.

17.1 overs (2 Runs) Uppish but in the gap! Bowled on a hard length around off, Matthew Wade goes after it but gets it off the higher part of the bat and well wide of the man at covers for a couple of runs.

16.6 overs (0 Run) Full and straight, looking for another yorker, Tanveer Sangha watchfully nudges it away to mid on.

Tanveer Sangha is the last man in for Australia.

16.5 overs (0 Run) OUT! BOWLED! Arshdeep Singh nails the yorker once more and this is some sensational death-over bowling by the Indian quicks. Steams in from around the stumps and bowls it right at the base of off stump, just getting it to reverse a bit as well. Adam Zampa is rooted to his crease and looks to play at it but is beaten all ends up and the ball knocks the off stump out of the ground.

16.4 overs (0 Run) Very full again, angling in from around off, Adam Zampa shuffles right across the stumps looking for the scoop but misses and gets struck on the pads. Not much of an appeal but out of nowhere, Suryakumar Yadav goes for the review. Nothing on UltraEdge and ball Tracking shows the impact as outside off.

16.3 overs (1 Run) Gets the yorker in right at the toes, Matthew Wade digs it out behind square leg and collects another single.

16.2 overs (1 Run) Comes from around the wicket now to the right-hander and serves a slow full toss outside off. Adam Zampa strokes it away square on the off side for a single.

16.1 overs (1 Run) This is full and angled onto middle and leg, Matthew Wade pushes it down to the right of long on and looks for two but settles for the single.

Adam Zampa is the next batter in.

15.6 overs (0 Run) OUT! BOWLED'EM! You miss, I hit! Prasidh Krishna goes back to bowling pace on and bowls this one full, angling it into the leg pole. Nathan Ellis hangs deep, makes room and clears the front leg to swing across the line but is beaten completely for pace and the ball shatters the off stump out of the ground. Krishna has three now!

15.5 overs (0 Run) Another slower delivery, bowled into the pitch and over the stumps, Nathan Ellis swings across the line but misses.

15.5 overs (1 Run) Wide! An attempted slower bumper, this one loops well over Ellis' head and a wide is called.

15.4 overs (0 Run) Misses by a whisker! This is full and quick again, around off stump, Nathan Ellis looks to play at it but is well beaten and the ball just goes past the off stump as well.

15.3 overs (1 Run) Slower one, full and outside off, Matthew Wade reaches forward and bunts it on the full toward mid off for one more.

15.2 overs (1 Run) A tad shorter and aimed at the body, Nathan Ellis manages to tuck it away 'round the corner for a single.

Nathan Ellis is the new man in.

15.1 overs (0 Run) OUT! TIMBER! Prasidh Krishna knocks over Sean Abbott and Australia going down in a hurry here. Full and in the blockhole on off, pace on as well. Sean Abbott looks to make a bit of room and jam it out but the ball sneaks under the willow and castles into the off stump. That's the second wicket for Prasidh Krishna in this game.

Gill To Lead Gujarat Titans After Hardik's Move To Mumbai Indians: Sources

Indian cricket team batter Shubman Gill will lead Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after all-rounder Hardik Pandya completed his move to Mumbai Indians on Sunday, according to sources. Pandya was the skipper of the team for the past two years and he even led them to the IPL title on their debut season in 2022. However, Pandya completed his move back to MI as part of an all-cash deal and it will be a perfect opportunity for Shubman Gill to prove his mettle as a captain.

Pandya on Sunday returned to his "spiritual home" Mumbai Indians after an all-cash deal trade-off with Gujarat Titans was formally completed following 72 hours of intense drama.

On Sunday at 5 pm, the IPL retention window was closed and at that point, Gujarat Titans named their IPL-winning captain in the retention list raising a lot of eyebrows.

However it was learnt that the formal paperwork wasn't yet completed and hence IPL and BCCI didn't give greenlight of approval for the most anticipated move of this transfer season.

"Yes, Hardik's trade off got completed after 5 pm. The deal is now formalised and he is a MI player. It's been a tripartite all cash deal. MI have traded their all-rounder Cameron Green to RCB in an all cash deal. After that they had requisite funds to settle an all-cash deal with Gujarat Titans and procure Hardik's services," a senior BCCI official and IPL Governing Council member told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

It must be mentioned that Green was bought by MI for a whopping Rs 17.5 crore during last auction and hence the money required to buy Hardik wasn't available till that deal was inked.

Pandya was picked by Gujarat Titans before 2022 auction from the list of available players for the two new franchises -- GT and Lucknow Super Giants.

His reported fee was Rs 15 crore and he led the side to back-to-back finals, winning the championship in maiden year and losing a thriller to CSK in 2023.

Rajasthan Royals' Joe Root Opts Out Of Indian Premier League 2024

England batter Joe Root has opted out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, announced his franchise Rajasthan Royals on Saturday. "England batter Joe Root will not be taking any further participation in the IPL, it was confirmed on Saturday," said a statement from the team. Root, one of the most decorated international cricketers for England, made his foray into the IPL set up last season, when the Royals picked him at the 2023 mini-auction. He made his IPL debut in the 2023 edition, playing 3 matches for the franchise. Root scored 10 in only one inning he played.

Kumar Sangakkara, Royals' Director of Cricket, said, "During our retention conversations, Joe informed us of his decision to not take part in IPL 2024. Even in a short span of time, Joe was able to create such a positive impact on the franchise and the players around him. His energy around the group and the experience he brought to the Royals will be missed. We respect his decision totally and wish him success in everything he does."

The 32-year-old's addition to the Royals squad brought in plenty of depth and experience, which served as a learning experience for a lot of youngsters in the side like Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal in the team. His camaraderie with his England teammate Jos Buttler and his bonding with Yuzvendra Chahal was also one of the memorable highlights of the former England Test skipper's stint with the Royals.

RR finished at number five last season, with seven wins and 14 points in 14 matches.

Root has scored 2,235 runs in 97 T20 matches at an average of over 31, with 14 fifties in 87 innings.

Ex-Pakistan Captain Wants This Star To Come Out Of Retirement

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif urged all-rounder Imad Wasim to reverse his retirement from international cricket. The 34-year-old all-rounder brought curtains down his cricket career on Friday with a post on social media stating that he feels it is the right time to retire. Latif on Saturday took to X, labelling Wasim as Pakistan's "best spinner" and urging him to reverse his retirement from international cricket.

"Imad Wasim should withdraw his retirement decision, Pakistan team's best spin bowler is Imad and can help a lot in batting. In the World Cup, if the most effective player of the team will not be there, it is not a loss for Imad, it is a loss for Pakistan. Mohammad Hafeez wants them to bring Imad back. If you want to play leagues, then separate from the central contract, but keep yourself available for the Pakistan team," Rashid wrote on X.

Wasim made 55 ODIs and 66 T20I appearances for Pakistan and amassed 1472 runs in total claiming 109 wickets.

He played his final international match against New Zealand earlier this year in a T20I game where he played a rapid-fire knock of 31 in just 14 balls and picked two wickets. He was also part of Pakistan's Champions Trophy-winning side in 2017.

Wasim shared a heartfelt note to announce his retirement thanking the PCB as well as the fans for the support that they showed him throughout his career.

"In recent days I have been doing a lot of thinking about my international career and I have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to announce my retirement from international cricket," he said in a statement.

"I would like to thank the PCB for all their support over the years - it has truly been an honour to represent Pakistan. Thank you to the Pakistan fans for always supporting me with such passion. A final thank you to my family and friends who have been so important in helping me achieve at the highest level. I now look forward to focussing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage," Wasim added.

Pakistan All-rounder Imad Wasim Retires From International Cricket

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim on Friday announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing curtains to his eight-year international career. Wasim took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce his decision, having played 121 international matches across ODIs and T20Is for Pakistan. Imad's final outing for his country was in April this year in a T20I against New Zealand at Rawalpindi. The Welsh-born Wasim made his international debut with the Men in Green in May 2015 in a T20I against Zimbabwe at Lahore.

"In recent days, I have been doing a lot of thinking about my international career, and I have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to announce my retirement from international cricket," the 34-year-old Wasim wrote in his retirement note.

"I would like to thank the PCB for all their support over the years - it has truly been an honour to represent Pakistan. Each of my 121 appearances across the ODI and T20I formats was a dream come true." Wasim, a left-handed batter, played 55 ODIs scoring 986 runs averaging 42.86 and he plucked 44 wickets with his left-arm spin.

From 66 T20Is, Wasim made 486 runs and took 65 wickets.

"Each of my 121 appearances across the ODI and T20I formats was a dream come true. It's an exciting time for Pakistan cricket going forward with new coaches and leadership incoming. I wish all involved every success and I look forward to watching the team excel." However, Wasim said he would continue to focus on his playing career as a non-international player.

"Thank you to the Pakistan fans for always supporting me with such passion. A final thank you to my family and friends who have been so important in helping me achieve at the highest level. I now look forward to focusing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage."
