Delhi to Implement Rs. 14,000-Crore AI-Based Traffic System by End of 2024 to Reduce Congestion: Official

The national capital will have an artificial intelligence-based traffic system by the end of next year to reduce congestion and facilitate faster and smarter vehicular movement, a senior official said on Wednesday.

Speaking at ASSOCHAM seventh road safety conference here, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Surender Singh Yadav mentioned that the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) would take another one or one-and-half-years to be fully implemented and is being done at the cost of around Rs. 1,400 crore.

Yadav, who is part of a special committee on road safety constituted by the Supreme Court, informed that they are working on technology initiatives to make the traffic much more smooth in the national capital.

"We are working on ways to see how technology can improve the commute at emergency corridors and emergency services. We are also looking at how we can improve upon our traffic control rooms and their communication with the ambulance networks," he said.

ITMS is a technology that employs AI to assess traffic in real time. When implemented, it is likely to change the traffic scenario in the city. Real time traffic information will be passed to commuters. The human interface in road management will be reduced and traffic signals will operate automatically during the day depending on traffic volume and average speed on the road, the statement said quoting Yadav.

He added that the government is putting a lot of emphasis on road safety due to the rising number of fatalities.

“Around 2,300 crashes were reported in Delhi which accounted for 40 per cent pedestrian mishappenings. With 3.5 lakh violations per month for red light and over speeding, responsible behaviour is crucial for all vehicle owners,” he said.

“A study is being carried out to ascertain the traffic volume, average speed on the road, number of pedestrians using the road, stoppage time and average travel time taken to cross the junction. The survey will also include the geographic information systems to predict likely traffic movement in real time depending on the area and topography in the national capital," Yadav said.

"Delhi has about 1.4 crore traffic challans pending, each month only red light jumping has 3.5 lakh challans in the capital. We are in touch with insurance companies to include pending traffic violation challans in the vehicle insurance policy at the time of renewal each year," he said.

Vinod Pandey, chairperson ASSOCHAM Global Value Chain Council, emphasised the safety of the vehicle which is a major influencer offering safer tools to avoid any fatality.

"With increasing digital transformation, there is a wide scope of umpteen opportunities like vehicle-to-vehicle communication, e-call, safety alerts, and anti-lock braking systems (ABS). Regular vehicle inspections and maintenance checks can help ensure that vehicles are roadworthy,” he added.

Vedanta-Foxconn, Other Chip Firms Expected to Re-Apply for Government Funding Under Revised Scheme

Some applicants including Vedanta Foxconn JV are expected to re-apply for government incentives under the modified semiconductor scheme opening from June 1, according to sources. Under the Modified Semicon India Programme, the government has increased the financial incentive of 50 percent of the project cost for companies, consortia, joint ventures for setting up semiconductor fabs in India of any node (wafer size).

In the old scheme, the incentives varied on the basis of wafer node size.

Similarly, a fiscal incentive of 50 percent of the project cost is available for setting up of display fabs of specified technologies in India, a statement said on Wednesday.

"Government has decided to invite new applications for setting up of Semiconductor Fabs and Display Fabs in India from June 01, 2023, under the Modified Semicon India Programme. The applications will be received by India Semiconductor Mission," the statement said.

Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that the first window for more expensive 28 nanometer (nm) fabs was kept open for 45 days only in January 2022 and 3 applications were evaluated by India Semiconductor Mission and its advisory group.

"Strategy now is also encouraging mature nodes of over 40nm - current n new players may apply afresh in various nodes that they hv technology for. It is expected that some of the current applicants will reapply n new fresh investors will also apply," Chandrasekhar tweeted.

Sources said that Vedanta Foxconn JV is also expected to re-apply under the modified scheme.

An email query sent to Vedanta, who is leading the JV, did not elicit any reply.

The application window for “Modified Scheme for setting up of Compound Semiconductors, Silicon Photonics, Sensors Fab, Discrete Semiconductors Fab and Semiconductor ATMP, OSAT facilities in India” is open till December 2024, the statement said.

Leading storage semiconductor company Micron has also applied for setting up an OSAT unit.

"Application window of Design Linked Incentive Scheme is also open till December 2024. Till date 26 applications have been received under DLI Scheme and five applications have been granted approval," the statement said.

Semicon India Programme was approved by the cabinet in December 2021 with an outlay of Rs. 76,000 crore for the development of the semiconductors and display manufacturing ecosystem in India.

Watch: Kohli Gives Batting Tips To Jaiswal Ahead Of WTC Final. Fans React

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League ended on Monday with Chennai Super Kings becoming the crowned champions for the fifth time. This season many uncapped players like Jitesh Sharma, Rinku Singh, Suyash Sharma, etc became stars with their exceptional performances. However, one player who became the talk of the town and utterly impressed everyone was Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The 21-year-old batter smashed 625 runs in just 14 matches and bagged the 'Emerging Player' award.

Jaiswal's IPL heroics has rewarded him completely as he earned a Team India call-up as a stand-by player for the World Test Championship final against Australia. The RR opener got this opportunity in the place of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who opted out due to his wedding on June 3.

The WTC final will be played from June 7 at The Oval and Jaiswal has arrived along with other players in UK. Taking to Instagram, ICC posted a video where Jaiswal was seen hitting the nets and practicing some shots.

He was seen showing batting skills on the deliveries of spinners Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel and the net bowlers. He also took some advice from Ashwin, who was also his teammate at RR. Later, Jaiswal also spent some time with the batting maestro Virat Kohli, who gave him some lessons on different type of shots.

The video went viral on the social media and fans flooded it with their comments.

"Jaiswal learning from King Kohli - The Best!" wrote a fan.

"It's all classic to watch Jaiswal batting...next big thing for India in all format of cricket," commented another fan.

"Getting teachings from Ash, King, Rohit and other seniors like Pujara especially in Test format is a golden opportunity for Jaiswal," wrote a fan.

Jaiswal finished the IPL 2023 as the fifth highest run-scorer of the season with five half-centuries and one century. He had a brilliant average of 48 and a terrific strike rate of 163.

"When Shubman, Virat Both Made Tons...": Sara Ali On 'Hatke' Time In IPL

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans was a nail-biter with the former clinching the summit clash to win their fifth title. Attending the match were 'Zara Hatke Zara Bachke' stars Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan. The actors posted a video in Instagram from the time at the stadium. In it, the actors can be seen giving each other a hi-five after CSK's win. The jubilant mood of the co-stars clearly reflects in the video.

Vicky Kaushal captioned his post, "Badle tere Mahi, leke jo koi saari, duniya bhi dede agar, to kise duniya chahiye. Mahi for the win. Jaadu you rockstar! What a match! GT... the best team through the tournament. Clearly the game was the real winner. #ipl2023 #iplfinal (sic)."

The two actors were also asked about their experience in the IPL final. "I have never seen a live match before. So, the first time you watch a match live and and you see MS Dhoni, then what more can you ask for," Sara Ali Khan said on Star Sports, with Vicky Kaushal by his side.

When asked to name one 'hatke' batter, who impressed them the most, Kaushal   said: "Yashashvi (Jaiswal). His journey has been special. Then to see him play the way he did, so confident. He has got that grace. He generates so much power."

Sara said: "The 'Hatke' time for me was when Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill both made hundreds in the same match. But Virat Kohli got out after scoring really well. It was a superb match to watch. Both innings were great. That was quite 'hatke'."

They were asked about 'hatke' bowler too, and Kaushal took Matheesha Pathirana's name.

"Couldn't Sleep, Kept Thinking...": Mohit On Final Two Balls To Jadeja

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final turned out to a sporting spectacle, with Ravindra Jadeja scoring 10 runs off the final 2 balls against Mohit Sharma of Gujarat Titans to earn his team 5th title. While it was pure ecstasy for the Super Kings, the Titans unit was in complete despair after failing to defend the title with the narrowest of margins. Mohit Sharma, who conceded a six and a four on the final two balls of the match to Jadeja, admitted that he couldn't sleep that night, thinking what he could've done differently.

In a chat with The Indian Express, Mohit spoke about his plans and preparation for the final over, which went as planned until the final two balls.

"My mind was very clear in what I wanted to do. In the nets, I had practiced such situations and I have been in such scenarios before too. So I said let me bowl all balls yorkers and was backing my instinct," the Haryana speedster said.

"They wanted to know what will be plan of action. I said I will again try to bowl yorker. People are now saying this and that but frankly it has no meaning. I knew what I wanted to do," he added.

WIth Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja on strike, CSK could only score 3 runs from the first 4 balls. But, Jadeja sent the penultimate delivery straight down the ground for a six before hitting a four fine behind the stumps to complete the run-chase.

"I ran and tried to bowl (yorker) again. I just wanted to be focussed and back myself. Whole IPL I have done that. The ball landed where it shouldn't have and Jadeja got his bat. I tried, I tried my best," he says.

Having come into the team, literally from nowhere, Mohit truly had a comeback season that he would be remembered for a long time.

He said: "I couldn't sleep. Sochta raha kya alag karta joh match jeet jaate. What if I could have bowled this ball or that ball? It's not a nice feeling now. Somewhere something is missing but I'm trying to move on."

"I was picked from nowhere. I remember speaking to Ani bhai (Anirudh Chaudhary, a veteran Haryana administrator) before the season what shall I do? Shall I continue or not. He had said I should try to play. I had come with no expectation and just have continued to work hard. My work ethic has remained the same. I don't know what lies ahead, but I have enjoyed my journey," the pacer went on to say.

Watch: Emotional Rayudu Breaks Down In Tears After Winning 6th IPL Title

Chennai Super Kings' middle-order batter Ambati Rayudu on Monday said he can afford to smile for the rest of his life after a "fairytale finish" to his cricketing career. Rayudu, who had announced his decision to stop playing IPL just before the final against Gujarat Titans, said his hard work for the last 30 years has paid rich dividends. "It's a fairytale finish. I couldn't have asked for more. I'm fortunate to have played in really great sides. I can smile for the rest of my life. All the hard work I've done in the last 30 years, I'm happy I got to finish on this note.

"I would really like to thank my family, my father. Without them this wouldn't have been possible," said Rayudu after CSK beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the IPL final.

CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who hit a six and four in the last two balls to seal the record-equalling fifth title for CSK, dedicated the win to skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who probably played his last IPL game on Monday.

"Feels amazing, winning my fifth title in front of my home crowd. I'm from Gujarat, and it's a special feeling. This crowd has been amazing. They were waiting for rain to stop till late night, I'd like to say a big congratulations to the CSK fans who came to support us.

"I'd like to dedicate this win to a special member of the CSK side, MS Dhoni," he said.

"I was just thinking I need to swing hard, as much as I can. Where the ball will go, I was not thinking about that, just looking to swing hard. I was backing myself and looking to hit straight, because I know Mohit can bowl those slower balls," Jadeja added.

Delhi Metro Launches WhatsApp-Based Ticketing Service for Airport Line Commuters

Delhi Metro commuters will now be able to travel on the Airport Line using a WhatsApp-based ticketing service launched on Tuesday.

The system allows commuters to receive a QR code-based ticket directly on WhatsApp, officials said.

"Further enhancing the travel experience for its commuters in an easy-to-navigate digital mode, Delhi Metro today introduced a WhatsApp-based ticketing service for travel on its Airport Express Line," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said.

The service was launched by DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar at the Metro Bhawan here in the presence of other senior officials.

With the introduction of this facility, commuters on the Airport Line will now be able to use WhatsApp chatbot-generated QR code-based tickets from their smartphones.

This facility will make commuting more efficient and seamless for commuters, especially national and international travellers heading to or coming from the airport, using the Airport Line, as they can now purchase and use tickets generated in their phone itself through a dedicated WhatsApp chatbot (available in English and Hindi language) as per their convenience, the DMRC said.

To initiate the service, commuters will have to add the DMRC's official WhatsApp number 9650855800 in their phone's contact list, it said.

For single and group journeys, a maximum six QR code-based tickets can be generated for each passenger, the officials said.

The tickets will be valid till the end of the business day. But once entry is done, passengers should exit within 65 mins from the destination station. For exit at the source (origin) station, passengers should leave within 30 minutes from the time of entry, they said.

The tickets cannot be booked after business hours. The service does not allow cancellation of tickets.

The DMRC will charge a nominal convenience fee for transactions done through credit or debit cards. No convenience fee will be charged for UPI-based transactions.

Earlier this month, the DMRC introduced QR code-based paper tickets for travel on all lines, describing the development as a move towards a more transparent and human intervention-free mechanism.

"For Strange Reason...": Gavaskar Question's Hardik's Final Over Act

Mohit Sharma was a star performer for Gujarat Titans in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and with 27 wickets from 13 matches, the experienced fast bowler played a massive role in taking them to the final. However, despite taking three wickets in the summit clash, he was not able to clinch the game for his side as he conceded 10 runs in the final two balls against Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Legendary India opener Sunil Gavaskar dissected the last over by Mohit and pointed out a moment that could have affected his rhythm.

Mohit conceded just three runs in the first four balls of the final over of the match with the first one being a dot ball.

However, the last two deliveries went for a six and a four as CSK clinched the match on the final ball of the game. Gavaskar believed that a break in concentration could have been the reason.

“He had bowled the first 3-4 delivery absolutely brilliantly. Then, for some strange reason, some water was sent to him. In the middle of the over, some drink was sent to him. Then Hardik Pandya came and spoke with him. You know when a bowler is in that rhythm and he is mentally also there, nobody should have said anything to him. Maybe from a distance, they could have just said ‘well bowled'. Going to them, talking to him – I do not think that was the right thing to do because suddenly, he was looking here and there. Till then, he was focused and I do not think what they did was the right idea. Because after that, he went for runs,” Gavaskar told Sports Today.

As Jadeja hit the winning runs, Mohit endured a bitter ending to the season that had been a fairytale until that moment.

ICC Seeking Guarantee From PCB Over ODI World Cup Participation: Report

The International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman and CEO are in Lahore to seek guarantees from the PCB that it will not push for implementing a hybrid model for its matches in the ODI World Cup in India later this year. Insiders confirmed to PTI that ICC chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice have specifically come to Lahore to get some assurances from the Pakistan Cricket Board on the national team's participation in the World Cup in October-November.

The development comes after PCB chief Najam Sethi made it clear that the team will not travel for the World Cup in India if the Rohit Sharma-led side doesn't visit Pakistan for the preceding Asia Cup. “The ICC and World Cup hosts, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are concerned with the hybrid model being pushed by Najam Sethi who heads the cricket management committee of the PCB.

“Although the hybrid model has been suggested by Sethi for the Asia Cup which precedes the ICC event, the concern remains that once accepted for the regional event the PCB might also then ask the ICC to implement it for the World Cup when it comes to Pakistan playing in India,” he explained.

Sethi has already indicated that if the Pakistan government doesn't give clearance or has security concerns about sending the team to India, PCB could ask the ICC to hold Pakistan's matches at a neutral venue.

“Naturally neither the ICC nor the BCCI want such a situation since Pakistan's unequivocal participation in matches in India would guarantee the success of Indo-Pakistan matches and also the tournament itself.” Another source said this was the primary reason why BCCI secretary Jay Shah was still reluctant to accept the hybrid model for the Asia Cup and support having three or four matches of the tournament in Pakistan and the remaining games in UAE or Sri Lanka.

Pakistan are the hosts of the Asia Cup and Sethi has said repeatedly that if the tournament is moved to one neutral country from Pakistan, it will not take part in the competition.

He has also hinted that if Pakistan didn't get to host some Asia Cup matches it could have an adverse bearing on the World Cup as well.

“The ICC officials are trying to work as a bridge between the PCB and BCCI and resolve the outstanding issues pertaining to the Asia Cup and World Cup.”

US Scraps Excise Tax Proposal on Bitcoin Mining After Biden Refuses to Slash Crypto Taxes

The US has come to a decision regarding the imposition of excise taxes on Bitcoin miners operating from within the country. The US will not be adding any new tax layer upon the US' Bitcoin mining sector as the proposal extended earlier this month has officially been scrapped. The development was confirmed to the media by a regulator in the US. It is noteworthy, that this decision comes immediately after US President Joe Biden clearly refused to slash the existing taxes on crypto gains. It seems, not levying an excise tax on Bitcoin miners is the US' way to keep earning from crypto taxes while also not pressurising the industry from all sides.

Earlier this month, the US' Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) floated a proposal to have Bitcoin miners pay a tax equal to 30 percent of the total energy cost that they consumed in the crypto mining process.

The decision to pull the plug on this proposal could be part of a bunch of tax-related rebates introduced by the US administration as it finalised to raise the inflation-ridden nation's debt ceiling by two years, a report by CryptoPotato said.

For now, however, Bitcoin mining businesses remain protected from any new taxes. Bitcoin mining is an energy intensive process, that requires miners to solve a series of complex algorithms on advanced computers, that need to be always connected to the power source. Miners solve these algorithms to validate transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain, and earn rewards in return.

Often, areas surrounding Bitcoin mining hotspots face a shortage in electricity supply, leading to frequent power outages and causing major inconvenience to neighbouring residents.

The US authorities, previously, have said that even if clean energy is used to facilitate crypto mining, it slashes the availability of clean energy for others, increasing their reliance on electricity produced by fossil fuels while also making that energy more expensive.

In the backdrop of these issues and the environmental deterioration caused by the BTC mining process are reasons that nudged the idea of having Bitcoin miners compensate financially.

Submitting the proposal to tax Bitcoin miners, the CEA had said that an estimated $3.5 billion (roughly Rs. 28,639 crore) could be added to the US Treasury in the next decade via this Digital Asset Mining Energy (DAME) excise tax.

Had it been passed; it would have made running a crypto mining business extra costly and that could have dented the US' current reputation of being a safe haven for crypto miners after China shut its doors to crypto activities.

As of July 2021, 35.4 percent of Bitcoin miners were operating out of the US, the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance had revealed last year. That's a 428 percent increase from September 2020, making US the biggest home for crypto miners.

American states of New York, Texas, Georgia, and Kentucky have emerged as popular hosts of crypto miners, CNBC had reported last year citing data from Foundry USA.

The MS Dhoni Decode! What IPL 2024 Season Could Actually Mean For 'Thala'

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was numb. He didn't raise his head even as Ravindra Jadeja had started sprinting towards the dugout and his mates in canary yellow responding in kind. Maybe Dhoni was trying to process it all after a gruelling two months. Moeen Ali hugged him and the contours of his face were devoid of any emotion. Maybe there was a storm brewing in his mind during those last six balls and it was the calm after-effect. Dhoni has just guided CSK to a fifth IPL trophy in 11 final appearances and he remained unfazed. Job done, what's the fuss about. He couldn't suppress his wide grin as an ecstatic Jadeja jumped on to his lap and engaged in a bear hug.

There were conjectures about their relationship deteriorating after Jadeja had to relinquish CSK captaincy mid-season in 2022, but as they say in Hindi, "anth bhala toh sab bhala" (all's well that ends well).

If Dhoni is involved, one would never know what actually transpired. Because what happens in 'Dhoniland' stays in 'Dhoniland'. Ask any CSK faithful, and he would vouch that it's an old concrete jungle saying.

Did the world see moistened eyes? Perhaps yes. But there won't be any overt display of emotions. It was all about process and execution with precision. A lot of pluck, and yes, a bit of luck, too.

He quietly trudges onto the field. Pats unlucky Gujarat Titans bowler Mohit Sharma's head. He knows how it feels to come so near and yet miss out. Remember Old Trafford where he was setting it up ala Dhoni style. That's why Dhoni is special and eminently relatable. He can relate with failures as much as he can with success.

Mohit is someone who learned the ropes of top-flight bowling under Dhoni at CSK before fading into oblivion and then making a grand re-entry this IPL.

In the meantime Jadeja does a TV interview and dedicates his performance and win to "MS Dhoni". The Motera stand, resembling a sunflower, erupts, but is it a hint that the end is near.

The question has followed Dhoni to every city and different people had asked him in a different manner. The street-smart player that he is, he always gave a cheeky reply, like one to Danny Morrison where he joked that he is already forcing him to retire, or at a promotional event where he said that any announcement would make things go haywire.

Have we seen the last of him? Maybe or maybe not. Only time will tell how he copes with a damaged knee when is nearing 43.

"If you circumstantially see, it's the best time to announce the retirement. The easy thing for me to say is thank you and retire. But the hard thing to do is to work hard for nine months and try to play one more IPL season. The body has to hold up.

"The amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to play one more season," Dhoni said before receiving his fifth trophy.

The love of Chennai fans has been unconditional and Chepauk has been his amphitheater, and he has been the hero as well as the main protagonist for them.

"The way they've shown their love and emotion, it's something I need to do for them. It's the last part of my career. It started over here and the full house was chanting my name. It was the same thing in Chennai, but it will be good to come back and play whatever I can," Dhoni assured all those who braved rain, changed itinerary, burnt hole in their pockets, and were present to hear him speak well past midnight.

So will it be a practical decision or an emotional one if Dhoni, who would be pushing 43 next year, decides to play another season of a gruelling two-month tourney? It is easier said than done in professional sport but Dhoni wants to bide time. On the face of it, it might seem emotional because CSK isn't just another team for Dhoni, which pays him a fat pay cheque. It is an emotional investment.

Going into the next decade, he will only be making all cricketing decisions and as a quick learner, work alongside Rupa Gurunath to also understand the business of running a franchise.

But those who have seen Dhoni, they know that N Srinivasan, the venerable CSK owner, is the former India captain's life coach and he has learnt one thing from him: if possible, always bide time, and take it deep, on and off the field.

So if another IPL is 10 months away and he has to keep himself cricket-fit for at least three months in the lead-up to the next edition, he will try and do it.

"The kind of cricket I play, they feel they can play that cricket. There's nothing orthodox about it and I like to keep it simple," Dhoni said.

As Stephen Fleming pointed out after the match. Dhoni's training sessions are on need basis.

"I can assure you that he has done no wicket-keeping practice during the IPL. It is all natural. He tried to do a keeping session with Devon Conway, who is an international wicketkeeper, and it was almost comical," Fleming said.

"Today was phenomenal, the style he does it with is awesome. That stumping is MS Dhoni at his best. It is nature, he has learned from tennis-ball cricket and it is just pure skill," Fleming added.

The impact player rule will give Dhoni a chance to maybe keep wickets for 20 overs but not use himself as a batter save a few occasions.

"Look, he knows, his power-hitting game is long gone. Like on Monday, he came ahead of Ravindra Jadeja. You could say it's because of maintaining the left-right combination but even then he took a chance because 15 balls were left.

"Had Jadeja gone out before him and got a first-ball duck, Dhoni might not have been able to finish the game," a former CSK player told PTI when asked how the skipper thinks.

So will he play next season? "My hunch is that he won't play as a batter anymore. He would perhaps still play a few games and check if he can run the team from dugout without being on the field. The moment, he cracks that code, he won't play anymore. For that if you read Fleming's words, he would try to fit in Devon Conway in that slot," the former player said.

After all, MSD is CSK and CSK is MSD.

"M5 Dhoni": How IPL Franchises Reacted To CSK's Record-Equalling Title Win

Chennai Super Kings clinched their fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title after defeating Gujarat Titans in a last-ball thriller at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Thanks to this victory, they are now tied with Mumbai Indians as the most successful franchise in the history of the competition. It was also the fifth win for MS Dhoni as skipper - a feat that only Rohit Sharma has achieved. The match faced several rain interferences but CSK were able to keep their calm and with 10 runs needed from the final two balls of the match, Ravindra Jadeja stepped up to the occasion and finished it in style.

It was a thrilling end to IPL 2023 which saw the most number of 200+ scores by the sides and a surprising number of high-score chases. In the aftermath of CSK's victory, all franchises took to Twitter to congratulate the winners and hail the brilliance of MS Dhoni for securing another title for his side.

Dhoni also dropped a major update regarding his potential retirement at the post-match presentation.

"If you circumstantially if you see it's the best time to announce the retirement. The easy thing for me to say is thank you and retire. But the hard thing to do is to work hard for nine months and try to play one more IPL season. The body has to hold up. But with the amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to play one more season. The way they have shown their love and emotion, it is something I need to do for them," said Dhoni told Harsha Bhogle during the ceremony.

"It is the last part of my career. It started over here and the full house was chanting my name. It was my same thing in Chennai, but it will be good to come back and play whatever I can. The kind of cricket I play, they feel they can play that cricket. There is nothing orthodox about it and I like to keep it simple."

Watch: Dhoni, Ziva And More! Emotional Post-Match Scenes Sum Up IPL Final

The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings made history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final as they defeated defending champions Gujarat Titans in a last-ball thriller to lift the title for the 'record-equalling' 5th time. It was an emotional moment for fans all across the world as they saw Dhoni lead CSK all the way in what was seen as his last match in the tournament's history. In an emotional video shared by the IPL on Tuesday morning, Dhoni could be seen lifting Ravindra Jadeja in celebration while also acknowledging GT skipper Hardik Pandya for his side's effort. Later, daughter Ziva came and gave Dhoni a big hug, congratulating on the title.

After clinching the title, Dhoni's daughter Ziva was seen lifting the IPL trophy with CSK players, celebrating the gigantic triumph at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Here's the beautiful video, summing up the emotional moments after Ravindra Jadeja's match-winning four.

Jadeja hit 10 runs off the final two balls as Chennai chased down their revised target of 171 in 15 overs with five wickets to spare in a rain-hit final which went past 1.30 am local time Tuesday on a reserve day in Ahmedabad following a washout on Sunday.

New Zealand's Devon Conway led the chase with his 25-ball 47 before cameos from Ajinkya Rahane (27) and Shivam Dube, who hit an unbeaten 32, set the stage for Jadeja's heroics.

Needing 13 off the final over, Mohit Sharma bowled four good balls before Jadeja hit the winning runs to trigger wild celebrations at the world's biggest cricket stadium.

Chennai won the title for the fifth time to go level with Mumbai Indians.

Dhoni kept attracting huge crowds across venues this season and over 80,000 fans cheered the veteran, who had recently said he would take a call on his future later this year, in the final.

Ambati Rayudu also hit a key 19 off eight balls in his last match after he announced his retirement ahead of the final.

Rain forced players off the ground when Chennai were four without loss after three balls of their innings.

The downpour lasted for about 15 minutes but covers came off from one of the pitches which got damp and the groundstaff worked for over two hours to get the field ready for play.

Sai Sudharsan smashed 96 off 47 balls to guide Gujarat, a team that won the crown in their debut season last year in the T20 competition and topped the table in this edition, to 214-4.

Dhoni's CSK Clinch Record-Equaling 5th IPL Title By Beating GT In Final

Chennai Super Kings claimed a record-equalling fifth Indian Premier League title with a five-wicket win over Gujarat Titans in a rain-affected but thrilling summit showdown on Monday. B Sai Sudharsan slammed 96 in 47 balls as Gujarat Titans posted 214 for four after being asked to bat first. Ravindra Jadeja struck a six and a four off Mohit Sharma in the final two balls to win it for CSK.

Earlier, GT were off to a flying start with their opening duo of Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill putting on 67 runs in seven overs.

While Gill was sent back by star left-arm spinning all-rounder Jadeja for a 20-ball 39, Saha went on to make 54 off 39 balls to lay a strong foundation for a formidable total.

Saha was dismissed by seamer Deepak Chahar, who had dropped Gill when the batter was on 3.

Sudharsan, who has also been in good form in recent times, hit six sixes and eight fours in his whirlwind knock.

Tushar Deshpande gave away 56 runs in his four overs.

Kohli Joins India Training Ahead Of WTC Final, Rohit To Join From Tuesday

Batting mainstay Virat Kohli joined the national team's training session on Monday at the picturesque Arundel Castle Cricket Club along with left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat, who seemed to have recovered from left shoulder injury. India will play Australia at the Oval in the one-off Test from June 7 to 11. The BCCI on Monday shared pictures of the members of the team, including Kohli, pace duo of Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj on their official twitter handle. "Team India members begin their preparations for the WTC23 at Arundel Castle Cricket Club," BCCI said in a tweet.

While Kohli, Umesh and Siraj were seen jogging in their new training kit, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin could be seen rolling his arm over at the nets.

Unadkat was also engaged in a discussion with head coach Rahul Dravid and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been playing for Sussex in the English county circuit to prepare for the final, also was seen arriving in the training ground.

Umesh and Shardul Thakur were among the first batch of Indian players to arrive for the WTC final.

Skipper Rohit Sharma and young Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal have also reached, while the last batch including Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, Mohammad Shami, K S Bharat and Ajinkya Rahane, will be leaving on Tuesday following the IPL final in Ahmedabad.

Jaiswal was included in the squad as a stand-by player after Ruturaj Gaikwad informed BCCI about him getting married on June 3-4.

India had finished runners-up in 2022 after losing the WTC final to Kane Williamson-led New Zealand by eight wickets in Southampton two years ago.

India won't play any warm-up game as the English County Championship is on and also this being an ICC event, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is under no obligation to arrange practice matches for the visiting team.

China to Send First Civilian Into Space on Tuesday as Part of Crewed Mission to Its Space Station

China will send its first civilian astronaut into space as part of a crewed mission to the Tiangong space station on Tuesday, its Manned Space Agency announced, as Beijing pushes ahead with its extra-terrestrial ambitions.

The world's second-largest economy has invested billions of dollars into its military-run space programme, trying to catch up with the United States and Russia after years of belatedly matching their milestones.

Until now, all Chinese astronauts sent into space have been part of the People's Liberation Army.

"Payload expert Gui Haichao is a professor at Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics," China Manned Space Agency Spokesperson Lin Xiqiang told reporters Monday.

Gui will be "mainly responsible for the on-orbit operation of space science experimental payloads", Lin said.

The commander is Jing Haipeng -- on his fourth mission into space, according to state media -- and the third crew member is engineer Zhu Yangzhu.

They are set to take off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China on Tuesday at 9:31 am (0131 GMT), the Manned Space Agency said.

Gui's university, known as Beihang University in English, said he hailed from an "ordinary family" in western Yunnan province.

He "first felt the attraction of aerospace" listening to the news of China's first man in space, Yang Liwei, on campus radio in 2003, the university said in a post on social media.

'Space dream'

Under President Xi Jinping, plans for China's "space dream" have been put into overdrive.

China is planning to build a base on the Moon and the country's National Space Administration said it aims to launch a crewed lunar mission by 2029.

The final module of the T-shaped Tiangong -- whose name means "heavenly palace" -- successfully docked with the core structure last year.

The station carries a number of pieces of cutting-edge science equipment, state news agency Xinhua reported, including "the world's first space-based cold atomic clock system".

Once finished, Tiangong is expected to remain in low Earth orbit at between 400 and 450 kilometres (250 and 280 miles) above the planet for at least 10 years -- realising an ambition to maintain a long-term human presence in space.

It will be constantly crewed by rotating teams of three astronauts, who will conduct scientific experiments and help test new technologies.

While China does not plan to use Tiangong for global cooperation on the scale of the International Space Station, Beijing said it is open to foreign collaboration.

It is not yet clear how extensive that cooperation will be.

China has been effectively excluded from the International Space Station since 2011, when the United States banned NASA from engaging with the country.

IPL 2023 Final, Reserve Day: Hourly Weather Report Of GT vs CSK Decider

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League couldn't crown a winner on Sunday, with excessive rain preventing a single ball from being bowled in the Chennai Super Kings vs Gujarat Titans decider at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match was pushed to Reserve Day (Monday), with the authorities and fans hoping that a full 40-over contest will be possible. After rain prevented a single ball from being bowled on Sunday, fans have their sights set on the weather forecast on Monday at Motera, Gujarat.

There simply isn't the worst sight than seeing cricketing action being suspended due to rain. Thankfully, there was a Reserve Day in place for the IPL 2023 final.

As far as the forecast goes, a full 40-over contest seems quite likely at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday. Accuweather suggests that the skies would mostly remain clear throughout the day, with their being only a 3% chance of rain at night.

Even if the hourly weather forecast is looked at, the chances of rain are negligible. Though there's a small possibility of rain during the day, during the match timings, the skies are mostly clear.

The fans who had turned up for the match on Sunday can attend the match on Monday too with the same tickets, IPL had confirmed.

"The #Final of the #TATAIPL 2023 has been moved to the reserve day on 29th May - 7:30 PM IST at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Physical tickets for today will be valid tomorrow. We request you to keep the tickets safe & intact," IPL tweeted.

This is the first time in IPL history that a summit clash has moved to a reserve day. The postponement of the match was a shocker for many excited fans who were in the stadium as well as those who were waiting for the summit clash in their homes. Around 11 PM IPL made the official announcement and ended many speculations.

'Dhoni And Reserve Day' Bring Back Harrowing Memories Of 2019 WC Semis

The final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 headed into the Reserve Day after play could not be possible on Sunday due to persistent rain at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Fans turned up in numbers hoping to see MS Dhoni lift the IPL trophy for the 5th time in his career with the Chennai Super Kings but had to return home disappointed. Though Dhoni's men are scheduled to take on Gujarat Titans on Monday, the prospect of Dhoni playing on a 'Reserve Day' brought back some horrible memories.

It was the semi-final of the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup between India and New Zealand when the match had to be shifted to the 'Reserve Day' because of rain on the scheduled day. New Zealand pacers, particularly Matt Henry, ran riot in overcast conditions to put India on the backfoot early on.

The match also saw Dhoni, the last hope of the Indian team, being run-out by Martin Guptill, helping the Kiwis secure an 18-run win. The match turned out to be Dhoni's last in the Indian jersey, with the former skipper deciding to retire from international cricket a few months later.

Seeing the IPL 2023 final heading into a Reserve Day too, fans fear if this would be the last time they would see Dhoni bat in the IPL too.

After the Qualifier 1, Harsha Bhogle had asked Dhoni about his future plans. The former India captain didn't give a clear answer and said he has about 8-9 months to decide whether he will play next year or not.

"I don't know. I have 8-9 months to decide. The small auction will be around December. So why to take that headache right now? I have ample time to decide. But, I will always be there for CSK whether it's in the playing form or sitting somewhere outside. I don't really know," Dhoni had said.

As for the CSK vs GT final on Reserve Day, the name of the winner can be decided even via a Super Over if rain disrupts proceedings again. If play is not possible at all, Gujarat Titans will be declared winners as they finished higher in the league stage of the campaign.

'What Truly Impressed Me...': Sachin's Praise For Gill Ahead Of IPL Final

Legendary Indian cricket team batter Sachin Tendulkar showered praises on Gujarat Titans star Shubman Gill following his match-winning knock against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Qualifier 2. Gill was in sublime form as he scored 129 off just 60 deliveries with the help of 7 fours and 10 sixes. Sachin said that the knock was nothing short of unforgettable and the legend went on to laud the youngster for his temperament and unwavering calmness on the field.

“Shubman Gill's performance this season has been nothing short of unforgettable, marked by two centuries that left an indelible impact. One century ignited @mipaltan's hopes, while the other dealt them a crushing blow. Such is the unpredictable nature of cricket! What truly impressed me about Shubman's batting was his remarkable temperament, unwavering calmness, hunger for runs and astute running between the wickets,” Tendulkar said.

In a chat on ABP news, former India fast bowler Atul Wassan said that he feels Gill will 'swallow' the iconic trio of Kohli, Rohit and Dhoni as he grows as a cricketer.

"Mujhe to lag raha hai ye tridev ko ye Gill nigal jayega jis tarah se ye batting kar raha hai (I think Gill will swallow this legendary trio the way he has been batting)," Wassan said on ABP news when talking about Gill and his success against the likes of Kohli and Rohit in recent matches.

Wassan also said that MS Dhoni is the next in line (for Gill to beat), as Gujarat Titans are set to take on Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 final.

"I feel next in line is Mahi. Even the Gujarat Titans team has looked excellent. Mumbai were in the game with Suryakumar Yadav there, but Gujarat have a good bowling depth as well. Despite coming in as a new team, they have made an impact. We had seen such excellence from CSK. Talking about Gill, he is a well-grounded player. Anyone could lose focus given the money and fame in IPL, but Gill has looked composed," he said.

Australian Trio Matthew Wade, Moises Henriques, Adam Zampa To Feature In Major League Cricket

Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade, Moises Henriques and Adam Zampa have become the latest Australia players who are set to feature in the inaugural edition of the United States T20 tournament. Henriques will take up the captaincy role for the Washington Freedom franchise. The 36-year-old has led the Big Bash League franchise the Sixers to back-to-back titles in 2019-20 and 2020-21. He could still be joined by two more BBL teammates as opening batter Josh Philippe and fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis are also being linked to the Washington franchise for the July tournament.

On the other hand, Australia's star white-ball spinner Adam Zampa is also set to join the Kolkata Knight Riders-owned franchise, Los Angeles Knight Riders. While Matthew Wade is another to have signed with an MLC club.

Zampa and Wade who have spent the past two months in the Indian Premier League outfits Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans respectively.

Zampa has claimed eight wickets in six matches for the Royals, while the versatile wicketkeeper-batter has struggled to make his way into the playing XI of the defending champions. Former India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has kept him out of the side for almost the entire season.

Till now, Washington has announced the most number of overseas signings out of the six MLC franchises with Henriques joining South African pair of Anrich Nortje and Marco Jansen, New Zealand's Glenn Phillips and Adam Milne, and Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga.

CNSW Head of Male Elite Cricket Michael Klinger, has been tasked with heading the Washington Freedom's high-performance program has said that he was "pleasantly surprised" with the quality of players in the US while speaking to cricket.com.au.

"The talent is there, there's no doubt about that. There's a lot of ex-players from the subcontinent who've played international cricket or been part of IPL franchises or PSL (Pakistan Super League) franchises," Klinger said.

"There were players who had been in first-class systems in the subcontinent, first-class systems in South Africa who left for different reasons. So there was definitely a positive feel about the quality that was there and that they'd be able to match it against some of our high quality overseas players as well," Klinger concluded.

BCCI Unlikely To Support Asia Cup Hybrid Model: Report

The BCCI will not support Najam Sethi's proposed hybrid model of hosting the Asia Cup wherein four preliminary round and two super four games will be held in Pakistan with India's matches and the final taking place in a neutral country. It is understood that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Jay Shah, who is also the secretary of the BCCI, during an informal discussion with some of the continental body's members in Ahmedabad has made the Indian board's stand clear. For a tournament to happen at a neutral venue, the all-powerful executive body of the ACC needs to take the final call, and therein lies the problem.

"Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have already told the PCB that they have no issues playing their games in Pakistan. But India is not keen on supporting the hybrid model. Now, the impasse hasn't been broken and the final decision will only be taken at ACC executive board meeting that Jay (Shah) will have to summon," an ACC board member said.

The ACC executive body has 25 members -- 5 Test-playing nations (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan), 3 with ODI and T20I status and 17 more with only T20 status.

Could the issue of hybrid model be put to vote? "There has to be a middle of the road solution as you can't put this hybrid model to vote. I mean if there are six nations playing the event, what is the locus standi of the 19 other nations who won't play the tournament? On what basis will they vote when they have no stake?" the ACC member said.

The hybrid model does have a logistical issue. What Pakistan Cricket Board chief Najam Sethi has told the ACC is that having the Asia Cup in two countries means double mileage for broadcasters but the BCCI feels that it will be a logistical nightmare considering the UAE might not be the neutral venue.

In fact, the PCB has already told the ACC that they would expect at least 0.5 million USD from gate receipts of the two Indo-Pak matches if they are held in Sri Lanka, as the capacity of Galle or Premadasa Stadium isn't as much as Dubai.

'Bowling Coach Jimmy Anderson' In Indian Camp? Fan Sets Twitter On Fire

Team India have begun its preparations for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, starting June 7 at the Oval in London. Some members of the Indian team have already reached the venue, ahead of the summitt clash, after their respective teams failed to qualify for the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs. The likes of Axar Patel, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur, among others arrived in London earlier this week and were accompanied by Team India's support staff, including head coach Rahul Dravid.

Earlier this week, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced a multi-year deal with German sportswear giant Adidas as Team India's kit sponsor.

Taking to Twitter, BCCI also unveiled India's new training kits, which were donned by some players and the support staff.

In one of the pictures, a fan spotted England pacer Jimmy Anderson's look-alike. Anderson's look-alike was none other than India's strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai.

"Great decision from BCCI to appoint Jimmy Anderson as the bowling coach," the fan tweeted.

Here's how Twitter reacted to the post:

The Indian team will assemble in London after the IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

The upcoming World Test Championship final is expected to see the Indian team wear the new Adidas Kits. India will be hosting the ICC ODI World Cup this year from October-November. The team is scheduled to play a number of ODIs before where the new blue-coloured kits will be seen.
